Untitled by Amy Whittington Eggleston

I must accept my woman’s fate
To stay at home – and wait
Wait – though keen anguish clutches at my heart,
Wait – while busily I do my part.
When messenger or post stops at the gate
I see but a harbinger of fate.
Still must I knit my socks –
And wait.
