And Another by Howard Phelps Putnam

I am tired of being hard,
And I am sick of the men who have made me so;
I have had too many lovers and had no love;
They were all the same as my husband,
Always talking their way into my body,
And some of them did not even talk,
Pushing at me with their entering emotions.
Why should I herd with these animals?
Why couldn’t I have been civilized?
Gentle and compassionate girls would have loved me;
I could have given them my lost tenderness.
